Nature and Scope

Accounts for coding and abstracting of patient encounters, including diagnostic and procedural information, significant reportable elements and complications. Researches and analyzes data needs for reimbursement. Analyzes medical record and identifies documentation deficiencies. Serves as resource and subject matter expert to other coding staff.

Compensation Philosophy:

  • We have 6 pay increments on our clinical pay scales to compensate staff for 6 years of relevant experience. 

Compensation Range:

  • $ 26.43- $33.73 / hour

Qualifications

Education: 

  • CCS or CPC certification 

Experience:

  • Experience with International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10 and ICD-9-CM)
  • Current Procedure Terminology (CPT4), and Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) coding systems, and other related documentation requirements.
  • Understanding of the clinical content of a health record.
  • Knowledge of and skill in word processing, spreadsheet and database PC applications.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent reading and writing skills and good verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of and strict adherence to the hospital confidentiality policies.
  • Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with the medical staff and hospital personnel.
  • Typing and computer skills preferred.
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

  • On a daily basis, codes, abstracts and files all outpatient labs, radiology, respiratory, treatments, clinic visits, procedures, surgeries, emergency room records, inpatient and observations. 80% of accounts should be completed within 5 days of discharge. 
  • Completes a final check on all charts, including the following before the abstracting is completed; all reports, and visit notes are signed by physicians; checks orders to verify M.D. and licensed nurse have signed and noted orders; check progress notes to verify a signature for every note that has been made.
  • Responsible for following all NCCI edits, CMS, Joint Commission and other regulatory agency rules and regulations.
  • Follows the Code of Ethics adopted by the American Health Information Association.
  • Willingly participates in continuing education/training as required by Manager.
  • Willingly seeks out training opportunities and communicates with the Manager on training needs.

Child Care:

  • PDH is thrilled to provide our Child Care Center services to all families in our area. Our program is operational from 7:45am to 5:15pm, Monday through Friday, and is approved for children aged 0 to 5 years. After submitting your application, our Child Care Director will get in touch with you about your acceptance into the program. Once approved, we will start the enrollment process.
