Nature and Scope

The Infection Control Practitioner evaluates patient care and patient outcomes as they relate to healthcare-associated infections; collects, prepares and analyzes healthcare-associated infection data: presents infection data and makes recommendations for actions; monitors employee compliance in use of barriers and infection prevention measures; prepares and presents educational offerings for the staff; serves as a resource to all departments and personnel; implements programs to protect the health care workers, visitors and others in the healthcare environment; sets and recommends policies and procedures to prevent adverse events; provides internal and external reporting of information and data; promotes compliance with regulations, guidelines and accreditation requirements.

Compensation Philosophy:

  • We have 13 pay increments on our clinical pay scales to compensate successful candidate for 30 years of relevant experience

Compensation Range:

  • $56.98 - $81.25 / hour

Qualifications

Experience

Required

  • Minimum of two (2) years in a clinical health setting as a licensed clinician.

 

Education

Required

  • Current California license as an RN, Midlevel provider or medical technologist or has equivalent healthcare experience.
  • Basic Infection Prevention course within 6 months of hire.

Preferred:

  • Certification in Infection Control.
  • Certification in Public Health

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Good analytical and critical thinking skills, good verbal and written skills to effectively communicate with staff and other members of the healthcare team.
  • Ability to develop policies and procedures.
  • Ability to teach and evaluate clinical performance.

Must meet physical requirements as stated on job description addendum.

Responsibilities

  • Performs ongoing monitoring of healthcare-associated infections.
  • Performs ongoing monitoring of community-acquired infections of patients in the hospital.
  • Assists in chairing the Infection Control Committee.
  • Assesses infection control problems and makes recommendations for corrective action.
  • Acts as a mentor, role model, and resource for coworkers.
  • Works to ensure safety and performance measures are met according to Joint Commission, State of California and Plumas District Hospital.
  • Is fluent with policies and procedures, and ensures competency measures are current.
  • Conducts outbreak investigation and initiates control measures.
  • Reports communicable diseases to the state as required by law.
  • Provides educational offerings for orientation and ongoing inservices.
  • Communicates clearly with staff, management, and providers to direct processes. Consults with department heads and physicians as needed to improve care.
  • Initiates follow-up on employee/patient exposures to communicable diseases. Coordinates with the public health department and employee health as needed.
  • Responsible for evaluating the quality and effectiveness of clinical practice through active process improvement.
  • Participates in short and long range planning for the infection control department.
  • Is involved in infection related product selection for PDH.
  • Initiates infection control interventions independently, if needed for safety.
  • Thinks critically and adapts to situations with appropriate assessment, planning and implementation.
  • Oversees bloodborne pathogen program.
  • This position is cross-trained to provide backup coverage of the essential job functions of the Employee Health Nurse.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Child Care:

Our program is operational from 7:45am to 5:15pm, Monday through Friday, and is approved for children aged 0 to 5 years.
