In addition to the duties and responsibilities of a CLS, a Lead CLS works along with the Laboratory Director accomplishing tasks that require skills of assignment of tasks/sub-tasks, oversight and ensure completion as intended for the smooth operation of the laboratory.

• Responsible for leading the CLS team in the lab, is the main point of contact in the lab for any issues.
• Creating schedules for the CLSs in the lab and submitting these to the laboratory manager for approval.
• Reviewing/providing oversight to the RHC clinics and hospital nursing staff for point of care testing which includes annual training and assessment.
• Perform the duties of the laboratory manager in their absence and will be available for questions and covering in the lab in case of an emergency.
• Responsible for the oversight of proficiency testing, including the review and submission of proficiency testing data and corrective action for all failed proficiency testing.
• Reviews and assigns all additional lab-related tasks to ensure completion and follows up with individual employees and the Laboratory Director when appropriate.
• Additional laboratory tasks include but are not limited to inventory and ordering, temperature monitoring, stain log checks.
• Responsible for Internal Competencies of all CLSs and Phlebotomists for all applicable departments of the laboratory; it includes preparing questionnaires, assigning and ensuring the completion of 6 months and yearly Internal Competencies.
• Other duties as assigned.

Experience

Required:

At least 2 years of clinical laboratory experience.

Preferred:

Experience in all the areas of a general laboratory including Blood Bank, and Microbiology.

Previous lead/supervisory experience.

Some experience/expertise aligning to the role.  

Education

Must have a valid California CLS license and Bachelors of Science.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Computer keyboard skills necessary.
