The Perioperative registered nurse works in the recovery room and is a member of the Surgical Services team and works closely with the Surgeon and OR team to provide appropriate preparation and recovery for the surgical patient. The Perioperative RN demonstrates strong critical thinking skills by assessing and anticipating the specific needs of each individual patient. The Perioperative RN is able to provide care for more than one patient at various stages of preparation for surgery and recovery simultaneously while prioritizing their care appropriately. The Perioperative RN educates the patient and family in preparation for the patient’s recovery phase of care according to the type of procedure and expected outcomes. The Perioperative RN demonstrates competency in understanding the affects of anesthesia and different types of surgical procedures and their impact on the patient. The Perioperative RN provides a safe environment of care for the patient and family. The Perioperative RN maintains the standards of the department and Plumas District Hospital in accordance with department and hospital-wide Policies and Procedures.
Supervises and directs patient care in the endoscopy room. Assists the physician performing endoscopic procedures and delivering nursing care ore and post procedure. Responsible for administering IV conscious sedation during procedure and for monitoring the patient’s condition and vital signs throughout procedure. Assists with orientation and training of new personnel and acts as a resource person for problems related to patient care.
Assists with surgical procedures in either the scrub or circulator role as assigned. Responsible for direct patient care and safety in the operating room. Responsible for maintaining appropriate supply levels in OR. Assist team members with cleaning, maintenance and sterilization of surgical instruments and equipment. Assists with surgical “on call” coverage as assigned.
Required Education: Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing. Current California RN license. Current CPR, ACLS, and PALS required.
Preferred Education: Skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook preferred. Experience with using Electronic Health records preferred.
Experience: Minimum of one year Recovery Room or critical care nursing experience within the last five years preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: The Perioperative RN has the ability to utilize the nursing process in the provision of perioperative nursing care including but not limited to administering treatments and medications, interpreting diagnostic tests, formulating a plan of care, collaborating with other health care providers and providing education to patients and/or significant others. The Perioperative RN will be required to successfully complete competencies for this position. This includes Malignant Hyperthermia, Preoperative Patient skin Antisepsis, Safe Medication Practices, Positioning, and Prevention of Unplanned Hypothermia.
