  • Overview

    The Lead Laboratory Assistant is responsible for all aspects of specimen collection, receiving, handling and processing. This includes transferring ordered tests to the LIS (Laboratory Information System) or appropriate lab slips, processing billing information and charging. The Laboratory Assistant is also responsible for the labs’ clerical and phone duties.

    In addition to the above duties the Lead Lab Assistant will also be responsible for the following:

    • Researching and resolving specimen processing problems.
    • Researching and resolving report distribution problems.
    • Assist in training new personnel in the specimen processing, order entry, referral and billing work flow.
    • Assist in maintaining and updating the LIS.
    • Assist in maintaining and updating interfaces (reference labs, hospital information systems)
    • Interrelates with the IT department concerning EMR updates and issues.

    Qualifications

    Required Education:  A California Phlebotomy Certification is required

    Experience:  Two years experience in a health care environment preferred.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:  Laboratory terminology and computer keyboard skills preferred.
